Creating a seperate Archive Page
Tuesday, June 8th, 2004

Sometimes you may not wish to have your category or month archives on the home page - but on a seperate page linked from your home page.

To do this is quite straightforward - goto the templates section of your database - and select "Documents".

Either create a new Document Template or copy and paste an existing one - title this template say "Archive Page". Edit/Create html within this template to how you wish it to appear on the screen using the DXTags - (this is where copying and pasting an exisiting document template saves time).

The tags for archive related lists are:
  • Months: < $DXMonths$>
  • Categories: < $DXCategories$>
  • Recent Entries: < $DXRecentSubjects$>
  • Recent Comments: < $DXRecentComments$>
  • Links: < $DXLinks$>
  • Referrers: < $DXReferrers$>
  • Recent Googles: < $DXGoogles$>

Once you have done save and close this template.

Then create a "Static Web Page" - and call it say "archives.htm" (using the page name field) - give it a title of perhaps "Archives Page" - and make it published.

Within the static web page goto the "Miscellaneous tab" and select your new Archive template from the "Overriding Template" dropdown. Also click the Exclude from search option and mark the dicussion option as No.

Save and close this web page.

To link to this new archive page from you homepage - within your site template you will need a link structured like>

< a href="archive.htm">Archive< /a >.

You will note I add spaces at the start of the dxtags etc within documentation - this so they do not get rendered by the software.
