Taking advantage of Template Blocks
Tuesday, June 8th, 2004

Template blocks are new to version 2.2.0 of the template and are designed to cut down on template maintenance. Below you can see the template blocks I use for the dominoblog.com website.

In order to create a template block you need to goto the Templates in your database and then select the Template Blocks view.

Click the "Create Template Block" button that appears on the view and a blank template document will appear - name your template something meaningful in the Properties Tab - Template Name and then create your template html in the Text/HTML tab. All the usual DXTags you would use can be entered.

In order to use a Template Block within a site or document template etc - edit that template and insert the following syntax into where you wish the template block to be placed:

<$DXTemplateBlock Name="LeftBar"$>

Hopefully it is obvious to see that the name attribute refers to the name of the template block you created.

Using template blocks will save a lot of time in the future if you want to edit a standard menu etc - as it can be done in one place rather than editing your site/document and any other templates you may use - think of it as similar to a subform in notes design.
