Tailoring your Inline Add Comments Form
Wednesday, June 9th, 2004

To start with, some information on how the system decides where to get its html for the Inline Comments Add Comment box.

In the Templates area there is a view "Add Comment Form" - this is where the html templates are kept. Within the Configuration document/Template tab there is a drop down "Default Add Comment Template" (11th dropdown box) - this is where the template is selected that you want to use.

If you do not have a "Add Comment Template" in your database then one can be copied from the Dominoblog template database.

The default template is a good place for you to start as firstly it works and secondly it provides an example on what I am going to talk about.

The html within the default template is just a simple table with the key parts being the fields used to collect the information. The fields you can use are as follows - although you can just use some of them if you require (use lowercase field names):
  • Subject
  • Author
  • Email
  • Website
  • Organisation
  • Country
  • Textcomment

You will see html code to handle the remember me part of the comment form - so make sure you use that section if you create a form from scratch - together with the code that submits the comment etc (See below).

So really the majority of the tailoring comes down to your knowledge of html - which I'm not going to teach here - but as always any questions let me have them.

There will be alternative comment forms available to download shortly.
