Adding an RSS Feed to your site
Saturday, May 1st, 2004

Out of the box, RSS is automatically included in your Blog Web Site - RSS Readers such as Newzcrawler will pick up your feed if open and you navigate to a site that is Powered by DominoBlog.com.

In addition, you can put an RSS Link on your page for people to manually configure there Reader software - to do this, you should add the tag <$DXRSS$> to your Sites HTML template - and also to your Blog Document template if you wish.

Like I say - everything else is automatic. What you can do though is configure your feed using the RSS Feed Tab in your Blog Configuration Document.

Within those configurations - you can switch RSS on or off (default is on) - and you can set the URL of your site which is included in the feed (this is required field).

The RSS Link Text field is the text that is displayed where you place your <$BlogRSS$> tag - so this can be changed from the default.

Send description as Link - Some Readers allow you to send a link in the description and instead of showing the RSS entry they will autoload the page into your Reader Software - not many support this - so I would leave this as the default "No".

Descripion Modes - This allows you to set whether the description field is auto completed or not - (this is the field which is used for the RSS description text and also for the <$BlogItemDescription$> DXTag and can be found in your blog/web page document under the Blog Description/Categories/Keywords Section.

Setting to manual leaves it up to you to type - otherwise it will take the description from either the Rich Text or the HTML/Text field - whatever you have selected. You can set the number of characters used to create a brief description using the setting in the 'Length of Description String' field.

The 'Item Description if empty' field is the default text used by the RSS feed if the description field is empty.

Finally, you can also set the number of latest blogs to include in your feed - the default being 20.
