Useful tool? Template Documentation Blog/Wiki

Steve Castledine  December 12 2007 11:34:57 AM
I've created some code which scans a Notes Template and creates a blog/wiki on its design.

You then get a precreated blog/wiki (you can move things around to how you want to operate it) which allows developers to document each piece or add comments. Then it is an editable site people can make comments as things are changed or add questions and answer's etc. Fluid, accessible documentation.

Would this be of any use to anyone other than me? If so I might formalise the code a bit more.

Absolutely!

On assignment for one of my customers, I was the team lead for a 20-person development staff. There was NO documentation when I walked in the door, and the first half of the team was given the task of documenting some 500+ internal applications.

We went with DomWiki for documentation, more to allow the utilization of a simple plug-and-play solution, and I found myself doing something VERY similar to this. A developer would log into the documentation "portal", select a given application, and whammo - the code would catalog all design agents and build the wiki pages that they (the developer) would then need to populate.

It was a hacked-together solution to say the least. However, something cleaned up and with some big-blue/yellow branding might look REALLY slick and come in handy all around.

Yes, definitely. When can I download it? :-)

This is very practical example of integrating Web 2.0 technologies with Notes development. I can't think of a better way to get started with documenting an app than creating a wiki from the code design and then filling in all the gaps over time. I would love to see (USE really) the code.

Yes, does a bear shit in the woods....??

Some tool like that should be a standard tool from Lotus, since it makes the applications made easier to maintain and roll-out.

Absolutely, this would be a very welcome application/bit of code.

btw - I like the tags - is this something in the 8.0.1 blog template that we can look forward to as well? please?

Definitely! This is so cool! Especially to put it in a Wiki!

Would love to try it out, and to use it.
